VISAS: Visitors from many countries, including the United States, are issued 15-day tourist visas for $50 upon arrival at Wattay Airport in Vientiane or at the Friendship Bridge -- the only bridge across the mighty Mekong River south of China -- which links Laos to the Thai town of Nong Khai. Those already with visas can choose from at least five other passages, overland or the river, into the country.
